Welcome to Mid Auchengowan

Welcome to our little corner of the countryside—where comfort meets character in the heart of Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire. 

 

Myself and my partner recently purchased and took on the business with a shared passion for hospitality and country living. Taking on the farm has been a dream come true for us, and we’re proud to welcome our guests to this special place. Whether you're a familiar face returning for another stay or visiting for the first time, we look forward to meeting you all.

Mid Auchengowan is set on a former potato farm that's been part of the local landscape for generations. We've lovingly transformed parts of the property into a cozy retreat for guests looking to unwind, explore, and experience the peaceful charm of rural Scotland.

Surrounded by rolling hills, walking trails, and wildlife, it's the perfect base for outdoor adventures or quiet getaways.

 

Whether you're here to cycle the local routes, visit nearby lochs, or simply relax and recharge, you'll find a warm welcome and all the comforts of home.

Location and Local Information

Travel Links & Parking

​

  • A 5-minute drive from Lochwinnoch train station, with regular services to Glasgow Central in under 40 minutes. 

  • Glasgow International Airport is just 10 miles away, and Prestwick Airport around 25 miles, both easily reached via the nearby M8 motorway. 

  • We have parking available on site for both the cottage and Dome and an electric vehicle charger is available.

Ferry Connections

​

  • Wemyss Bay Ferry Terminal (approx. 35 minutes by car) for sailings to the Isle of Bute

  • Gourock Ferry Terminal (~40 minutes) provides crossings to Dunoon & Cowal Peninsula

  • Ardrossan Harbour (~50 min) serves ferries to the Isle of Arran
    These make island trips easy to reach from our base.

Lochwinnoch’s cozy pubs offer some country charm with good food:

  • The Brown Bull (Main Street) – offers rotating real ales, a beer garden and live music.  

  • The Three Churches Inn (Church Street) – dog‑friendly with a kids' menu, a beer garden, events, and warm hospitality. 

  • The Corner Bar (High Street) – traditional bar with a snug vibe and friendly locals. 

  • The Boat House Bar & Restaurant, just outside the village, offers a refined menu, dairy‑free & gluten‑free options, lovely décor, and great views.

  • La Dolce Vita Chip Shop (High Street) - award winning village chippy ideal for a quick fix takeaway or delivery.

Nature, Cycling & Outdoor Activities

​

  • Castle Semple Loch sits within Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, offering watersports, paddleboarding, sailing and scenic trails.

  • The RSPB Lochwinnoch Nature Reserve is a short walk from the village centre with bird hides, family trails and an interpreter centre. 

  • National Cycle Route 7 follows the old railway line straight through Lochwinnoch—ideal for walkers and cyclists alike, connecting you to scenic Parkhill Woods.
